PROJECTS
American
Libraries Association (ALA)
Capital Consultants was asked to represent the interests of libraries
throughout the country when it was hired in 1999 by ALA's incoming President,
Sarah Long, to help create a strategic plan for her year-long term in
office. ALA is the oldest, largest and most influential organization
of its kind in the world. It includes all municipal libraries, all public
libraries, as well as all university libraries throughout the United
States. Capital Consultants worked with ALA to develop several new initiatives,
including After School Programs for public libraries, with the help
of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the U.S.
Department of Education and several private foundations. Capital Consultants
also assisted ALA in implementing an international Sister Libraries
Program with longtime client Sister Cities International.
American University (AU)
Capital Consultants worked to develop a joint degree program between
AU and Moscow State University (MGU) in Russia for the President of
The American University in Washington, DC. MGU is considered Russia's
premier academic institution. MGU was interested in partnering with
an American university in the early 1990's to establish a business school
and political science department following the end of communist rule.
Capital Consultants interviewed several American universities before
settling on The American University in Washington, DC as a partner for
MGU. In addition to consulting for both MGU and later, AU, Capital Consultants
worked as the Washington Representative and Registered Foreign Agent
for MGU for much of the 1990's, following the end of the Cold War. Among
the achievements for MGU was a visit to Moscow State University by President
Clinton during his second official State visit to Russia. President
Clinton gave his nationwide address to the Russian people on campus
before a crowded hall of MGU faculty and students.
Coca Cola Company
Capital Consultants paired client, Sister Cities International, with
the Coca Cola Company in 1996 for the Atlanta Games Olympic Torch Relay.
Sister Cities became a nationwide civic volunteer for Coke's Torch Relay.
Sister Cities' volunteers turned out in cities across the country as
volunteers and crowd builders when the torch passed through their cities
in route to Atlanta for the Summer Olympics.
J. Paul Getty Trust & Museum
Capital Consultants began representing the world-renown Getty Museum
in Los Angeles in 1998. Capital Consultants served as the Washington
Representative for the Getty Information Institute (GII) and compiled
a grass roots marketing plan to identify civic partners for Getty. Capital
Consultants promoted the many fine programs and activities at the Getty
among these civic groups and non-profit groups in Washington, including
the National Governors Association (NGA), the National League of Cities
(NLC), the International City/County Managers Association (ICMA), the
National Council of Senior Citizens (NCSC), the National Education Association
(NEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
Levi Strauss & Company
Capital Consultants paired Levi Strauss and non-profit client, Sister
Cities International, to conduct a six-city marketing campaign entitled,
"Pair of Friends, Pair of Cities, Pair of Jeans." The campaign
promoted Levi's Personal Pair line of jeans. The promotion consisted
of customers participating in a 60 second, in-store video competition
where they were given a chance to win a free trip to one of six Sister
Cities throughout the world. The Sister Cities included, Seattle and
Kobe, Japan; San Diego and Edinburgh, Scotland, Washington, DC and Dakar,
Senegal; Boston and Strasbourg, France; Dallas and Riga, Latvia; and
Chicago and Casablanca, Morocco.
